Hi friends,
Hope you are fine. It’s been a while since I’ve
written. This week I’d like to share some points about the Holy
Spirit.
Who Is the Holy Spirit?.... and the different Roles He
plays in our lives:
Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Triune God. God the Father, Jesus, the Son and then we have the Holy Spirit. We have heard of the power of the Holy Spirit and the representations of the Holy Spirit as Fire, Wind, Water, Oil, Wine, The Dove etc. However, the Holy Spirit is not just any of these, he is the Breath of God living in us. Holy Spirit was there right from the beginning. We read in Gen 1:2 “The Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” We read in Acts 1:4-5 Jesus asking them to wait for the gift of the Holy Spirit before departing to Jerusalem. In Acts 1:8 He tells them that when they receive the Holy Spirit, they will now have the power to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth. Then we read in Acts 2 how the disciples gathered in the Upper Room are filled with the Holy Spirit and they begin to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. -Acts 2:4
We too can get this gift of the Holy Spirit. When we accept the Lord Jesus as our Lord and Savior, confess with our mouth and believe with our heart, He comes and dwells in us. He guides us into all truth, convicts us when we go wrong and comforts us when we are distressed. Let us see some of the other roles He plays in our lives.
1) Holy Spirit as the Gift giver- The Holy Spirit gives us the 9 gifts as mentioned in 1 Corin 12:7-11 They are the gifts are wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, tongues, and interpretation of tongues. These are given to all believers for the benefit of all. There will be a few more prominent gifts in each one and that is the choice of the blessed Holy Spirit.
Word of Wisdom: A supernatural insight into a specific situation or problem.
Word of Knowledge: A supernatural revelation of facts or information.
Faith: A supernatural empowerment to believe God for specific needs.
Gifts of Healings: Supernatural healing of physical and emotional ailments.
Working of Miracles: Supernatural acts that bypass the laws of nature.
Prophecy: Speaking forth a message from God, often revealing future events.
Discerning of Spirits: The ability to distinguish between a divine, human, or demonic spirit.
Speaking in Tongues: Speaking in a language unknown to the speaker.
Interpretation of Tongues: Supernatural ability to interpret the message of someone speaking in tongues.
2) Holy Spirit as
the Perfect Intercessor- Rom 8:26 says that "Likewise
the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should
pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession [or
us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Sometimes our heart may be
so heavy that we don’t know how or what to pray, at such times the Holy Spirit
takes over and makes intercession for us by praying to the Father with groanings
which we don’t understand. This brings speedy response from the Father because
it is in full accordance with the will of the Father.
3) Holy Spirit as the Comforter-In John 14:16 Jesus tells us “And I will
pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide
with you for ever” The Holy Spirit is all knowing. He knows all that troubles
our soul and He has the correct solution to all our problems. We can trust Him
to be our Comforter in times of distress and He will comfort us with
supernatural reassurance that only God can provide. In some cases like death of
a loved one, the Holy Spirit comforts the bereaved with comfort that no human
being can offer.
4)
Holy Spirit as a Friend- The Holy Spirit is very loving and can be the most
trustworthy and Best Friend that one can have in this walk of life. Psalms
25:14 “The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear Him and He makes known
to them His covenant.” Sometimes we may go through certain issues in life that
we may not feel comfortable sharing with anyone else ; at such times we can
talk to the blessed Holy Spirit who will never judge or condemn us. He will
offer encouragement and He will be with us in our loneliness. We must encourage
our children to recognize the Holy Spirit as our Best friend early in our life
so that no matter what troubles come in our life we will have the habit of
sharing everything with Him without fail.
5)
Holy Spirit as our Burden Bearer- The Lord asks us in Psalms 55:22 to “Cast
our burdens upon Him for He will sustain us. He will never let the righteous be
shaken” Sometimes life’s burdens get too heavy for us , at such times we have a
safe place where we can cast our cares upon Him. Mathew 11:28-30 says , "Come unto me, all ye that
labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon
you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest
unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my
burden is light.”
6) Holy Spirit as a Teacher- John 14:26 says that “the Holy Ghost whom the Father will send in My name,
He shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you.” We don’t have to be worried about what to say
for when the time comes the Holy Spirit will tell us. Mark 13:11 “When you are put into their hands, do not be
afraid of what you are to say or how you are to say it. Whatever is given to
you to say at that time, say it. It will not be you who speaks, but the Holy
Spirit." Even the Scripture as we read if we don’t understand, all we have to do
is ask the Holy Spirit to teach us as He is the author of the Bible and will be
more than happy to give us fresh revelation and instruction if we ask Him to
explain to us.
7) Holy Spirit as the Healer- It is the Holy Spirit who restores those who are
sick in mind or in body. When we pray believing that our God is Jehovah Rapha
the Great Physician, Healing will be manifested. James 5:15 says, “the prayer
of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if
he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.”
8) Holy Spirit as Discerner of Spirits- Acc to 1 John 4:1, we are asked to test the
spirits “Beloved, believe
not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many
false prophets are gone out into the world.” It is the Holy Spirit that
will tell us which spirit we are encountering. It is the Holy Spirit who is the revealer
of all secrets. (Daniel 2:47)
9) Holy Spirit as the Peace
Giver-We read in John 14:27 Jesus comforts His disciples saying “My peace I give you, not as the world giveth,
let your heart not be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” This "peace" is not merely the absence of
conflict, but a deep sense of well-being and security that comes from a
relationship with God. It is the Holy Spirit who brings this peace into
our hearts. Living in a world full of conflict and turmoil, this Peace is most
essential for all of us.
The Holy
Spirit is likened to a dove in that He is very gentle and very pure, He will
only go where He is invited and cherished. Even if He is the most Powerful
Person , the Holy Spirit will never push His way into our life. He waits for us
to Open the door of our life and invite Him into our lives. Rev 3:20 “ Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if
any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup
with him, and he with me.” Thus we
can see how very important it is for us to converse with the Holy Spirit and
invite Him to be the Senior partner in our walk with the Lord.
Let us sing this song inviting the blessed Holy Spirit into our lives to be all that He wants to be and do all that He wants to do in and through us today.

Prayer: Blessed Holy Spirit, we welcome you into our lives once again . Forgive us for the times when we have quenched you, grieved you, ignored you, disobeyed you and hurt you. We recognize and realize how much we need you in our lives, we ask You to come and take your rightful place in our lives. We invite you to take complete control of us and we give ourselves to You for You to use in whichever capacity You want for the Glory of God.
Have a
blessed week!
